Training on offshore field development

Developing offshore petroleum: The process

The process of developing offshore petroleum resources starts with a discovery resulting from exploration drilling. It proceeds through appraisal, feasibility study, concept selection, engineering, contracting, construction, production drilling, commissioning and start-up.

The process is structured around decision gates, at which investors (oil companies) decide on proceeding with the development. The field development plan is a key document and milestone in the process, serving as a basis for authorities' approval of the development. An approved field development must be sound in terms of technology, safety, environmental impacts and economics.

We can deliver courses on offshore field development, of varying length depending on depth of coverage and participants' level of knowledge. Courses may include brief introductions of related topics, notably environmental management, economics of investment decisions, and the national framework for resource management and regulations.  An outline of a course (4 days) is found here.

We also have an e-learning suite on offshore field development, divided into lectures on the main stages of the process. This can be used as a stand-alone introduction to the subject, or (preferably) in combination with a tutored course.  A sample from the e-learning suite can be seen here:  Sample, introduction to field development
